National day of truth and reconciliation
2021/10/07
On the occasion of the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, community members gathered at the Viger Reserve historic site to pay tribute to former residents.
A walk of remembrance, in memory of missing Aboriginal children, residential school survivors and their descendants, was then undertaken from the Nispekok Pavilion at Kiskotuk Coastal Park. The walk ended at the Point of Cacouna, where a sacred fire had been lit. Participants could make offerings of tobacco and positive thoughts.
