Development of Wolastoqey Stores
2022/03/07
The Matuweskewin boutique, that is usually located in the Denis-Launière house, has been closed since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, in order to meet the demand, the Grand Council of the Wolastoqiyik Wahsipekuk First Nation is working on reopening the store.
The development of the administrative and community centre could have an impact on the location of the boutique in the summer of 2022, but the desire to offer products made by members of the community or in the image of the community is very much present.
In parallel to the opening of the boutique, the Grand Council is also working on the development of a new online boutique with a variety of products. This virtual store will allow members living outside the territory to connect with the Wolastoqey culture by purchasing original products.
The online store is expected to be launched in the early summer of 2022.
