Kataskomiq

2021/09/07

Work on the Kataskomiq reserve development project continues. A master plan is being drafted and the process of designating commercial and industrial lands is well underway. There are many steps in this process and the First Nation membership will be asked to vote on the matter.

With the recent inauguration of the first phase of the Wolastoqey culture enhancement project at Kiskotuk Coastal Park, the possible acquisition of Mont Citadelle and the land tenure agreement signed with the Government of Quebec for the lands adjacent to the Gros Cacouna Harbour, the Kataskomiq project is now part of an integrated economic development and recreation and tourism strategy that will ultimately benefit the First Nation members. This synergy between the different poles of attraction and development of Wolastoqey culture in the heart of Wolastokuk, the unceded territory of the Wolastoqiyik Wahsipekuk First Nation, will make our Nation’s model a reference, particularly in terms of experiential tourism.
