Different committees animate our Nation

Council of Elders

Inspired by the wisdom of the Elders, the main objective of the Council of Elders is to give a voice to the Elders of the Nation so that they can contribute to the taking of a position on certain subjects submitted to them. The Council of Elders acts with respect for custom and tradition and ensures that these are safeguarded.

The members of the Council of Elders are:

  • Athanase clan
    Mrs. Renée Desjardins (Lanaudière);
  • Launière clan
    Mr. Jocelyn Dionne (Bas-Saint-Laurent);
  • Brière clan
    Mrs. Hélène Brière (Bas-Saint-Laurent);
  • Nicolas clan
    Mr. Alyre Bélanger (Lanaudière);
  • Jenniss clan
    Mrs. Odette Rioux (Bas-Saint-Laurent);
  • Aubin clan
    Mrs. Nicole Aubin (Bas-Saint-Laurent);
  • Denis-Pollard clan and the Wolastoqiyik outside of Québec
    Mr. Ernest-Daniel Nicolas (Maine).

Cultural committee

The cultural committee plays a privileged role within the Nation in all matters affecting cultural life. The committee has an advisory role in that it makes recommendations and provides guidance to the WWFN Grand Council. 

The members of the Cultural Committee are:

  • Mr. Daniel Brière (Montréal);
  • Mr. Jean-Frédéric Lavoie (Montréal);
  • Mr. Louis-Xavier Aubin-Bérubé (Montréal);
  • Mrs. Marie-Laurence Morais (Estrie);
  • Mr. Pierre-Luc Gauthier (Centre-du-Québec);
  • Mr. Patrick Savoie (Chaudière-Appalaches);
  • Mrs. Isabelle Baron (Centre-du-Québec).

Finance and audit committee

Established as a requirement of the WWFN Financial Administration Act, the duties of the Finance and Audit Committee include reviewing financial statements and multi-year financial plans, monitoring WWFN’s financial performance against the annual budget, reporting significant variances and making recommendations to the Grand Council.

The members of the Finance and Audit Committee are:

  • Mr. Richard Desjardins (Lanaudière);
  • Mr. Marc-André Dallaire (Capitale-Nationale).

Toku management committee

The committee plays a privileged role within the Nation in all matters that affect economic development activities, particularly in the commercial fisheries. The committee has an advisory role in that it makes recommendations and provides guidance to the WWFN Grand Council.

The members of the Toku Management Committee are:

  • Mr. Gaetan Moreau (Chaudière-Appalaches);
  • Mr. Marc Dallaire (Côte-Nord);
  • Mr. Martin Dallaire (Wendake);
  • Mr. Patrick Boulianne (Côte-Nord);
  • Mr. Sylvain Legros (Chaudière-Appalaches);
  • Mrs. Caroline Jennis (Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean);
  • Mrs. Pier-Ann Tremblay (Côte-Nord).

Wolastokuk Traditional Activities and Occupation Committee (WTAOC)

At a meeting of the Grand Council of the WWFN held on May 6th, the elected officials recommended by resolution the names of the members who will compose the new WTAOC Committee.

This committee will play a privileged role within the Nation for all matters related to traditional activities and occupation of Wolastokuk. The committee’s mandate will include making recommendations to the Grand Council of the WWFN. This committee will maintain close links with the members of the Nation concerned with the development of traditional knowledge related to the territory of the Nation, in particular the members directly involved in the traditional activities and occupation of Wolastokuk. 

In order to reflect the reality of our Nation, the committee will be composed of members of the WWFN from different regions.

The members of the WTAOC Committee:

  • Mrs. Denise Lizotte (Chaudière-Appalaches);
  • Mrs. Françoise Jenniss (Côte-Nord);
  • Mr. Mathieu Pigeon (Bas-St-Laurent);
  • Mr. Ken Jenniss (Lower North Shore);
  • Mr. Laurent Tremblay (Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean).
