Commercial fisheries

From the estuary to the bottom of the channels of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the Wolastoqiyik Wahsepikuk First Nation’s commercial fishery catches various species of fish, molluscs, echinoderms and shellfish. From the beginning to the end of the fall, about fifteen direct jobs are created in Eastern Quebec, with another fifteen positions revolving around these activities during the exploitation period. While some of the species harvested become commodity products accessible on a regional scale, other products find a niche in high-end markets around the world.
